On the conclusion of the visit of FATF's President, Mr. Roger Wilkins at the top of a high-ranking delegation to Saudi Arabia, he stated:
"The FATF has invited KSA to apply for membership to it. Saudi Arabia is a strategically important country in the world economy. It is a G20 member country. It has taken significant steps to combat money laundering and terrorism financing. For these reasons, FATF believes it is important for the Saudi Arabia to become a member to FATF."
"Our delegation includes representatives from South Africa, Turkey, and USA. We have received a clear and enthusiastic commitment from Saudi Arabia to FATF standards and objectives."
The President stated: "The next step for membership is to seek the agreement of the FATF's plenary in June and then carry out a detailed evaluation."
"I think there is a great deal that FATF can learn from Saudi Arabia and it can make valuable contributions to the work of FATF", Mr. Wilkins said.
