​​​​​​​Overview

The fourth issue of Saudi banknotes was introduced into circulation during the era of King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, on 01/04/1404H, corresponding to 04/01/1984. This issue marked the introduction of the 500 Saudi riyals denomination for the first time, in response to the expansion of cash transactions driven by Saudi Arabia’s economic development. This issue also included the 100 riyals, 50 riyals, ten riyals, five riyals, and one riyal denominations.

500 Riyals Note​
  • Obverse:
  • Contains a portrait of King Abdulaziz in the middle, with the value of the note below it in Arabic. To the left is the metal layer and a view of the Kaaba, atop which is the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency in Arabic. To the right of the note appears the watermark. Above it are the number and date of the Royal Decree by virtue of which the n​ote was issued and the name of King Fahd. Below that are the serial number and the signatures of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of SAMA.
  • Reverse:
  • Contains a view of the Grand Mosque of Makkah, atop which are the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency and the value of the note, both in English. At the bottom appears the value of the note in English letters and numerals, along with Saudi Arabia’s emblem.
500 Riyal Note Size and Color: (166 mm x 74 mm), Blue
 
100 Riyals Note
  • Obverse:
  • Contains a picture of King Fahd in the middle, with the value of the note below it in Arabic. To the left is the metal layer and an aerial view of the Prophet’s Mosque, showing its domes and minarets. Above that is the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency in Arabic. To the right of the note appears the watermark, above which are the number and date of the Royal Decree by virtue of which the note was issued and the name of King Fahd. The bottom of the note shows the serial number and the signatures of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of SAMA.
  • Reverse:
  • Contains a view of the Prophet’s Mosque, atop which are the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency and the value of the note, both in English. At the bottom right is Saudi Arabia’s emblem.
100 Riyal Note Size and Color: (160 mm x 72 mm), light brown
 
50 Riyals Note
  • Obverse:
  • Contains a picture of King Fahd in the middle, with the value of the note below it in Arabic. To the left is a view of the Mosque of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, atop which is the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency in Arabic. To the right of the note appears the watermark, above which are the number and date of the Royal Decree by virtue of which the note was issued and the name of King Fahd. Below that is the serial number and the signatures of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of SAMA.
  • Reverse:
  • Contains a view of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, above which is the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency in English. At the bottom are the value of the note in English and the emblem of Saudi Arabia.
The 50 Riyal Note Size and Color: (155 mm x 70 mm), Green
 
Ten Riyals Note
  • Obverse:
  • Contains a picture of King Fahd in the middle, with the value of the note below it in Arabic. To the left of the picture is a view of Al-Murabba’ Palace in Riyadh, atop which is the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency in Arabic. To the right of the note appears the watermark. On top of it are the number and date of the Royal Decree by virtue of which the note was issued and the name of King Fahd. Below that is the serial number and the signatures of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of SAMA.
  • Reverse:
  • Contains a scene of a farm with palm trees, above which is the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency in English. The value of the note appears at the bottom in English, along with Saudi Arabia’s emblem.
The 10 Riyal Note Size and Color: (150 mm x 68 mm), Gray
 
Five Riyals Note 
  • Obverse:
  • Contains a picture of King Fahd in the middle, with the value of the note below it in Arabic. To the left of the picture is a view of boats sailing in the Gulf. Above that is the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency in Arabic. To the right of the note appears the watermark, atop which are the number and date of the Royal Decree by virtue of which the note was issued and the name of King Fahd. Below that is the serial number and the signatures of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of SAMA.
  • Reverse:
  • Contains a view of an oil installation, above which is the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency in English. The value of the note appears at the bottom in English, along with Saudi Arabia’s emblem.
The 5 Riyal Note Size and Color: (145 mm x 66 mm), Pink
 
One Riyal Note
  • ​Obverse:
  • In the middle is a picture of King Fahd. To its left is an image of the front side of the first Islamic coin with the inscription: (Field) "لا اله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له" (There is no god but Allah alone with no partner or associate); in the margin "محمد رسول الله أرسله بالهدى و دين الحق ليظهره على الدين كله" (Mohammad is the messenger of Allah, He sent him with the guidance and the Religion of Truth, that He may cause it to prevail over all religion). On top of it appears the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency in Arabic. To the right of the note appears the watermark, above which are the number and date of the Royal Decree by virtue of which the note was issued and the name of King Fahd. At the bottom of the note are the serial number and the signatures of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of SAMA.
  • Reverse:
  • Contains a natural scene with flowers. Above it is the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency and the value of the note, both in English. At the bottom appears the value of the note in English letters, along with Saudi Arabia’s emblem.
One Riyal Denomination Size and Color: (134 mm x 62 mm), dark brown
