​​​​​Overview

The third issue of banknotes was introduced into circulation during the era of King Khalid bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. It comprised five denominations: 100 riyals, 50 riyals, ten riyals, five riyals, and one riyal. The issue was released on 16/10/1396H, corresponding to 09/09/1976.

100 R​iyals Note
  • ​Obverse:
  • Contains a view of the Grand Mosque of Makkah. Above it appears the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency and the value of the note is beneath it, both in Arabic. To the right of the note is a picture of King Abdulaziz, above which is SAMA’s undertaking to pay the value of the note. To the left of the note appears the watermark, above which are the number and date of the Royal Decree by virtue of which the note was issued and the name of the King during whose reign the note was issued. At the bottom of the note is the serial number and the signatures of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of SAMA.
  • Reverse:
  • Contains an external view of Al-Masaa, with the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency above it in English. The emblem of Saudi Arabia appears to the left. The value of the note is displayed at the bottom of the note in English.
100 Riyal Note Size and Color: (182 mm x 86 mm), Blue
 
50 Riyals Note
  • Obverse:
  • In the middle is an inside view of the Prophet’s Mosque. At the top of which is the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, while at the bottom is the value of the note, both in Arabic. To the right is a picture of King Faisal, with SAMA’s undertaking to pay the value of the note above it. To the left is the watermark, above which appear the number and date of the Royal Decree by virtue of which the note was issued and the name of the King during whose reign it was issued. At the bottom of the note appear the serial number and the signatures of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of SAMA.
  • Reverse:
  • Bears an inside view of the Prophet’s Mosque, and above it is the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency in English. To the left is the emblem of Saudi Arabia, and at the bottom of the note is the value of the note in English.
The 50 Riyal Note Size and Color: (176 mm x 76 mm), dark green
 
Ten Riyals Note
  • Obverse:
  • In the middle is the view of an oil refinery. Atop it is the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, and beneath it is the value of the note, both in Arabic. To the right of the note is a picture of King Faisal, atop which is SAMA’s undertaking to pay the value of the note. To the left is the watermark, and above this appear the number and date of the Royal Decree by virtue of which the note was issued and the name of the King during whose reign the note was issued. The serial number and the signatures of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of SAMA are seen below.
  • Reverse:
  • Contains a picture of Ras Tanura Oil Refinery. Above it is the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, and below it is the value of the note, both in English. On the left side of the note appears Saudi Arabia’s emblem.
The 10 Riyal Note Size and Color: (164 mm x 74 mm), Brown
 
Five Riyals Note
  • Obverse:
  • The middle bears a picture of the modern irrigation canals in Al-Hufuf,  Eastern Region. Above it appears the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency, while below it is the value of the note, both in Arabic. To the right of the note is a picture of King Faisal, placed below SAMA’s undertaking to pay the value of the note. To the left is the watermark, above which appears the number and date of the Royal Decree by virtue of which the note was issued, along with the name of the King during whose reign the note was issued. Below them are the serial number and the signatures of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of SAMA.​
  • Reverse:
  • In the middle is a picture of Jazan Dam, atop which is the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency in English. To the left is Saudi Arabia’s emblem. At the bottom is the value of the note in English.
The 5 Riyal Note Size and Color: (152 mm x 70 mm), Green
 
One Riyal Note
  • ​Obverse:
  • In the middle of the note is a depiction of Jabal Al-Nour in Makkah, with the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency above it in Arabic. Below it is the value of the note in Arabic. To the right is a picture of King Faisal, atop which is SAMA’s undertaking to pay the value of the note. To the left is the watermark. Above it appear the number and date of the Royal Decree by virtue of which the note was issued and the name of the King during whose reign the note was issued. The serial number appears at the bottom of the note, along with the signatures of the Minister of Finance and the Governor of SAMA.​
  • Reverse:
  • In the middle is a view of Dhahran Airport, with the name of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency above it in English. To the left is Saudi Arabia’s emblem, while, at the bottom, appears the value of the note in English.
