The Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) announced the issuance of the Standard Insurance Policy of Medical Malpractice that will come into force as of January 1, 2022. This step comes in continuation of SAMA's efforts aims at developing the insurance sector, as well as to safeguard and protect policyholders, and in line with the authority vested to SAMA according to the Cooperative Insurance Companies Control Law. Taking in consideration, the legal requirement imposed on doctors and dentists according to Law of Practicing Healthcare Professions , which emphasizes to obtain insurance coverage against Medical Malpractice. 

SAMA clarified the standard policy aims to set the minimum acceptable standards that must be provided to any medical practitioner within their comprehensive malpractice insurance policy. Through the issuance of this standard policy, SAMA ensures preserving the rights of the insurance parties and provides a standardized minimum, benefits (coverages) and exclusions, which ultimately leads to enhance the sustainability of health services providers as well as appropriate compensation to the harmed due to Medical Malpractice.
