SAMA sets controls for benefiting from digital certification services for banking products

                The Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority "SAMA" informed all banks operate in the Kingdom they can benefit from digital certification services for banking products related to personal financing for individuals and issuing credit cards if the bank desires so, provided that the bank must assess the risks associated with the service, sets precautionary controls, and verifies the identity of the applicant. This step comes in the interest of SAMA to facilitate and improve banking services in the current circumstances, by enabling banks to take advantage of the digital certification services approved in the Kingdom for banking products related to personal finance for individuals and the issuance of credit cards.

 

                SAMA lays stress that banks whish to benefit from digital certification services must adhere to implementing a number of requirements, most prominently, the digital authentication service provider must be accredited by the National Center for Digital Certification, and that the application is created through an electronic channel. In addition to the approval of the application after at least 24 hours of submitting the application, and the approval of the customer is confirmed through the bank calling to verify the identity of the customer, with an assurance that it is the responsibility of the bank to verify the information provided by the customer before carrying out the operation, and set adequate security standards to protect data and communicate with the digital certification center, taking into account the security encryption standards for the data as well as the privacy of the data.
