The Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority has monitored a number of fraudulent messages that are alleged to be issued by the institution. These messages ask customers to update the information of their accounts with the financial institutions, by communicating via phone numbers that do not belong to the SAMA or to the financial institutions.

Based on the SAMA's keenness to protect the clients of financial institutions, it confirms the danger of responding to these anonymous messages. SAMA also affirms that it does not require clients to disclose any data or information for the purpose of updating them, as updating account data and information is done through the official channels of financial institutions.
